Tension rises in Wimbledon as the games almost come to its final rounds and the winners already getting visible in every game. Probably one of the luckiest athletes this year is Serena Williams and she was really thankful when she surpassed the elimination round and reaches the quarterfinal at Wimbledon.
On Monday, Serena Williams came through another tough three-set match in order for her to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, defeating the 65th-ranked Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazhakstan with scores 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.
Despite of the windy conditions, Williams cruised through the first set before the hard-hitting Shvedova found her rhythm in the second, breaking the American twice to even the match. She then wasted three break points at 4-4 in the third before eventually breaking for a 6-5 lead. She clinched the victory with a backhand winner on her first match point. She made a very outstanding performance on Monday’s game and everybody already has their eyes set on her upcoming games during the quarterfinals and see is she will be able to make it on the championship round.
During the third-round match, Williams won the last set 9-7 against Cheng Jie. In other news, Shvedova who happens to be a wild-card entry also became the first woman in the Open Era to win a set without losing a single point in her third-round match against Sara Errani.
