In times of emergencies or disasters, you can finally count on Twitter in providing you with an alert system that you can surely use for emergencies.
It was on Wednesday when Twitter said that it will help its users in receiving special alerts from government and aid agencies during emergencies in preparation for its initial public offering. Those Twitter users who will sign up will be receiving smartphone notifications via the Twitter app as well SMS text messages from any of several dozen agencies who have signed on to the program.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, Tokyo’s Disaster Prevention service and theWorld Health Organization are among those participating in the said campaign.
A year after Twitter showcased its potential as a lifeline during Hurricane Sandy, the alerts program will then be activated and it will become initially available in the United States, Japan, Korea and will be expanded in other countries as well.
Craig Fugate, the FEMA administrator, said the service was at the cutting edge of disaster management in the age of smartphones. “Today we have a two-way street — residents are informed about hazards in real time and emergency managers receive immediate feedback on the consequences of a disaster,” Fugate said in a statement.
Apple Inc never runs out of new features for its iPhone gadgets and iPad gadgets and as a matter of fact, right now, it’s second-generation iPad mini tablet is expected to be unveiled next month and according to a pair of leaked photos coming here and there, the tablet will seemingly be made available in the same gold and white color combination as Apple’s new flagship iPhone 5s.
On Friday, ZOL, a Chinese language owned by CBS Interactive, published a pair of images it claims to reveal the new Retina iPad mini in Gold. I bet most of the iPhone users are excited to get rid of their old models and replaced with this sleek new ones. Aside from this cool appearance, Retina iPad mini will also include Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner just like what iPhone 5s have.
Apple’s Retina iPad mini is expected to be unveiled alongside a new completely redesigned fifth-generation iPad early next month and both tablets are expected to be released soon after. We have also seen the tablet pictured in Apple’s new space gray color, so it looks like the new mini may indeed feature more changes than just an upgraded display. Take a closer look at it on the photo and imagine yourself owning one of it.
The All-star forward Paul George gladly accepted the $90-million plus worth of deal with Indiana Pacers. The two sides have reached an agreement on a five-year maximum extension on the team and Paul George have agreed and glad to have the deal.
It will be on Wednesday morning that the deal is scheduled to be signed and the Pacers have called for a news conference with George and the team President Larry Bird to make some public extension. Paul George was voted as the 2013 NBA Most Improved Player. For the two sides, the five-year deal cements the gifted young forward as Indiana’s designated franchise player and they are not planning to give him to other teams. Paul George’s extension on Pacers will begin on the 2014-2015 season of the NBA Tournament.
Included in the deal of Paul George is the super-max contract provision termed the “Derrick Rose Rule” that will pay him up to 30 percent of the franchise’s payroll total if he repeats as a third-team ALL-NBA selection or better next season. This is quite a challenge for Geroge but he has to prove himself worthy of the deal given by Pacers. If George fails to repeat as an all-league selection – and falls short of winning the league MVP or being voted an All-Star starter – he’ll make nearly $82 million over the five-year deal.
Indiana re-signed forward David West to a three-year, $36 million extension in July, and secured center Roy HIbbert with a four-year, $58 million deal last summer. George recently told the Indianapolis Star he expected an extension to be completed before the start of the season.
A group of German hackers allegedly claims that they have hacked and cracked the fingerprint scanner of the newest iPhone model and this alleged claim was declared last Sunday, just two days after Apple Inc launched the technology that it promises will be better protect devices from criminals and snoopers seeking access.
The suspicion is not yet confirmed but if this claim is verified, it will surely be very embarrassing for Apple since they are already betting that they have set its smartphone apart from the new models of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and others running the Android operating system of Google Inc.
Last week, Apple has claimed that they have found better way in protecting thieves from taking access to their iPhone users but based on this claim, it seems like very easy for them to do that.
Two prominent iPhone security experts told Reuters that they believed the German group, known as the Chaos Computing Club, or CCC, had succeeded in defeating Apple’s Touch ID, though they had not personally replicated the work. However, things have to be verified still. One of them, Charlie Miller, co-author of the iOS Hacker’s Handbook, described the work as “a complete break” of Touch ID security. “It certainly opens up a new possibility for attackers.” We tried to get some comments from the representatives of Apple but none of them bother to send a response.
Apple is soaring high as it produces new and wonderful features for its existing iPhones and iPads. They always try something new to make all their users happy and satisfied. As a matter of fact, just last Wednesday, Apple’s core operating system for its iPad and iPhone had a major refresh when it released its newest iOS 7 and you won’t be able to have problems if you are using old iPhones because the apps that you use right now or the apps that you use the most on those devices will also be freshened up to match.
Hundreds of new apps for iOS 7 were released the same day and amongst them were updates to the two most popular social media apps, Twitter and Facebook. With this, iPhone users are but very happy.
When you take a look at it closely, the new app on Facebook has been changed with a new way to navigate around your feed and it doesn’t anymore make you swipe from the left to get menus, but the navigation bar can now be found at the bottom for you to have quick access to your friend requests, notifications and messages. Facebook said that it has been testing new design over the last six months with a limited number of users and this have seem to be the perfect one for iPhone users all round the globe.
In the meantime, the changes in Twitter’s new app are mostly aesthetic, though there are some significant Twitter changes within the operating system, for instance, Siri can now search Twitter and in Safari you can now see a list of links that have been shared on Twitter by people you follow. This is probably good news to all of you so update you iOS now.
This is probably good news to all the citizens of Iran as they were long been waiting for the time to connect with their friends online through Twitter and Facebook after these two huge and famous social networking sites were blocked from their nation.
For the first time since 2009, Facebook has finally became widely accessible to Iranian users this Monday. Going back to year 2009, these online services were blocked in the midst of the widespread protest against former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iranian authorities blacked out Facebook and Twitter in the summer of 2009, when Ahmadinejad’s disputed re-election victory sparked massive protests that gained momentum with the help of organizers using social media.
Reporters in Tehran for the New York Times and the Washington Post both said on Twitter that they could access the service freely on Monday. Director Jillian York of the International freedom of expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties organization, said that she has received so many reports from the citizens using several different Iranian internet service providers confirming that the bans appeared to have been lifted and it was considered to be unblocked in the nation.
“Some other blocked sites are reporting themselves unblocked – the National Iranian American council is reporting themselves unblocked as well,” York said, referring to a U.S.-based nonprofit group.
With this, most of the Iranians are so glad that they can finally access Facebook and Twitter and be one with the world. For all we know, Facebook and Twitter are two of the largest social networking sites which has billions of users worldwide.
