Bradley Retains Title by Beating Marquez with Split Decision

Marquez and Bradley fightYesterday’s fight between Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, two of the world’s great boxers who were able to beat Manny Pacquiao in controversial wins, fought against each other in a WBO Welterweight match.

Timothy Bradley stuck to his game plan and used an elusive style to frustrate Juan Manuel Marquez to retain his WBO welterweight title Saturday night at the Thomas and Mack Center. At the end of the match, Bradley won in a split decision given by the judges and the whole of America rejoiced.

Juan Manuel Marquez and his team were left sour graping over Bradley’s victory that night. “To be here in Vegas, I have to get a knockout to get the victory,” Marquez said in the post-fight news conference. “I need to be more afraid of the judges than my opponent.”

Marquez’s trainer, Nacho Beristain, threw his own haymaker. “He is the only champion with two losses,” Beristain said of Bradley. Marquez called Bradley “Very lucky. He’s the only undefeated fighter with two losses.”

Judge Glenn Feldman agreed with Marquez 115-113. Robert Hoyle had Bradley winning 115-113 and Patricia Morse Jarman had it 116-112 for Bradley. Feldman’s score was read first by ring announcer Michael Buffer, and Bradley could be seen mouthing, “What?”

Bradley is pretty confident that he would win the fight and as a matter of fact, he is not sure about Feldman’s decision. “I didn’t think the fight was close. When he attacked me on the ropes, he missed a lot,” Bradley said. “I was blocking and rolling and a lot of the shots missed. After this fight, boxing afns are looking forward for Bradley to have a rematch with the legendary Manny Pacquiao. We’ll see if he will able to give in into the offer.
